Committees

The Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants has several committees. Below are chairs and the descriptions of each. Elections, By-Laws, and Nominations

The Elections, By-Laws, and Nominations and Committee shall be composed of four (4) active Members, who shall be appointed by the Board unless the Board, in its sole discretion, allows one or more of such Members to be elected by the Members at a meeting thereof. The Nominations and Elections Committee shall develop and submit names of candidates for vacant or to-be-vacant positions of Directors, Board Officers and Officers in a time and manner so as to conform to the election process set out in Section 3 of Article IV of the Bylaws, and shall have such other responsibilities as the Board of Directors may assign to it.

Government Affairs

The Governmental Affairs Committee shall be responsible for monitoring all legislative and regulatory changes introduced to the Kentucky General Assembly. The Chair of the Committee shall serve as KAPA’s liaison to the Kentucky Medical Association and shall report back on any legislative initiatives related to the practice of medicine in the Commonwealth. The Committee shall coordinate chapter support of national advocacy initiatives. The Vice President shall be an ex-officio member of the Governmental Affairs Committee. He/she shall report to the Board any legislative changes needed or current status of legislation.

Membership

The Membership Committee shall be responsible for overseeing all membership retention and recruitment activities, including solicitation of renewals and efforts to recruit new members.

Public Education Committee

The Public Education Committee shall be responsible for enhancing the public’s understanding and acceptance of Physician Assistants.

Student Committee

The Student Committee shall be chaired by the Student Representative on the Board of Directors and shall be responsible for the KAPA Newsletter, planning PA Week activities, and recruiting practicing PAs for the student mentoring program. For the Newsletter the committee will collect information from board members and committee chairpersons, as well as articles from other members. This will also involve compiling these articles together and submitting the Newsletter to the management company for publication and distribution. The Newsletter shall be published at least quarterly and the Board will decide upon any additional newsletters. The KAPA Board of Directors will appoint from its membership an ex-officio member to the Student Committee in a mentorship role.

Spring Continuing Medical Education Committee

This committee, along with the administrative manager, shall be responsible for planning a Spring CME meeting. This meeting will take place in a manner as directed by the Board of Directors. The chair of this committee shall report to the board on the status of the meeting and/or the results.

Fall Continuing Medical Education Committee

This committee, along with the administrative manager, shall set up the Annual KAPA CME Symposium. This includes organizing the location of the CME Rooms, luncheons, lectures and Exhibit Tables and presenting this to the membership as outlined in Article VII, Section I. The Director at Large shall be an ex-officio member of the CME committee and report to the Board updates of the CME plans and/or results of CME meetings.
