2017 Lobby Day
Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017

Thank you to everyone who participated in KAPA's 2017 Lobby Day. We had a great turnout and some great feedback from the attendees about their legislative meetings. We hope this was a great experience for all in attendance. Not only is this a great way to get a first-hand look at how things work in the Kentucky General Assembly, but also one of the best ways to get involved and show your support for KAPA’s latest legislative initiative, SB 55, which if passed would allow PAs to prescribe schedule II-V controlled medications.

KAPA encourages you to follow up with your legislators and develop relationships on a personal level. While our Lobby Day will go a long way in rallying support for SB 55 and establishing PAs as important advanced practice providers, we don't want it to be the last time your legislators hear from you. For both those who attended and those unable to participate, keep up the momentum by:

  • Sending an electronic letter to your legislatorclick here for details.
  • Calling your legislator at 1-800-372-7181. A sample script of what you can say is: "As a Physician Assistant/Physician/Patient and your constituent, I am asking for your support of Senate Bill 55. Senate Bill 55 modifies prescriptive authority for Physician Assistants. Generally, this bill will allow for more efficient and accessible healthcare for all Kentuckians. Kentucky is the only state in the US where Physician Assistants cannot prescribe controlled substances. I strongly request that you support modified prescriptive authority for PAs in order to advance the standard of healthcare in Kentucky. Thank you for your support."
  • Writing a letter to the editor at your local paper. If you need help finding out who to send it to, contact info@kentuckypa.org.
  • Sharing information about how this restriction has personally affected you. Please continue to do so on Facebook and Twitter. You can also email your story to info@kentuckypa.org.

The KAPA Board of Directors wants to thank everyone that attended Lobby Day this year and let everyone know how fully committed KAPA is to advancing the cause of Physicians Assistants in the Commonwealth and beyond. We are sending out a survey to follow up with those able to attend. We welcome your input and if you have any questions or concerns please e-mail info@kentuckypa.org.
